Switzerland's Borgne have returned with a new album which continues the atmospheric style of industrial black metal from their previous recordings and this is a review of their 2020 album "Y" which will be released in March by Les Acteurs de L'Ombre Productions.
A very dark and industrial orientated sound starts off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the music being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Programmed beats can also be heard in some parts of the tracks along with the music also having its atmospheric moments and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Keyboards are also added into some parts of the music along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, all of the musical instruments on the recording also h ave a very powerful sound to them.
One track also introduces spoken word parts and clean vocals onto the recording and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can also be heard, and a later song is also an instrumental. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover misanthropy, darkness and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Borgne and if you are a fan of industrial and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "As Far As My Eyes Can See" "A Hypnotizing Perpetual Movement That Buries Me In Silence" and "A Voice in The Land Of Stars". 8 out of 10.
