At The Altar Of The Horned God is a solo project from Spain that plays a ritualistic form of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Through Doors Of Moonlight" which will be released in April by I, Voidhanger Records.
A very ritualistic and ethic sound starts off the album along with some melodic chants while shamanistic and tribal sounding percussion can also be heard at times. The heavier side of the music also mixes in the ritualistic and tribal elements and ambient style synths can also be heard at times.
Clean pagan vocals are also added into some parts of the recording while the music also brings in a very dark and religious atmosphere at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw black metal feeling.
Grim screams can also be heard during the more aggressive parts of the recording along with all of the tracks also sounding very different from each other. Elements of folk music, psychedelic and goth rock are also added on some of the tracks, one of the heavier songs also adds in some slow to mid tempo riffing and as the album progresses acoustic guitars and female vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion At The Altar Of The Horned God is a very great sounding ritualistic black metal solo project and if you are looking for something that is very original, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Prayer I" "Perdition In The Oneness" and "A Circle of Swaying Leaves". 8 out of 10.
