Black Vice are a band from Austin, Texas that plays a very raw, atmospheric and melodic form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "The Alchemist's Vision" which will be released in march by Crown And Throne Ltd..
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while some of the tracks are also long and epic in length. At times the music also gets very dissonant sounding along with the guitar leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the riffs also adding in some dark sounding melodies at times. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses a couple of synth orientated instrumentals are also added onto the recording. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism and Alchemy themes.
In my opinion Black Vice are a very great sounding raw, melodic and atmospheric occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ontogenesis" and "Salvation". 8 out of 10.
