Zifir are a band from Turkey that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a traditional form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Demoniac Ethics" which was released by Duplicate Records.
A very distorted sounding intro starts off the album along with a brief use of melodic yet ritualistic chanting before introducing grim black metal screams onto the recording before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the album you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the chants also returning on some of the later tracks.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies along with the music also adding in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences, when guitar leads and solos are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style as well as a couple of tracks also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts and as the album progresses a brief use of keyboards and clean playing can also be heard. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover satanism, blasphemy, misanthropy, philosophy, anti religion and nihilism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Zifir and if you are a fan of traditional black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chants For Execution" "Chaos Clouds" and "Insects As Messengers". 8 out of 10.
