Hecate are a band from France that plays a very melodic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Ode au desert suspendu: which will be released in March by Mourning Light Records.
Classical guitar playing starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the solos and leads are also done in a vert melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also having its atmospheric moments.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the vocals also getting very deep sounding at times. A few tracks also introduces clean playing onto the recording and as the album progresses classical guitars also make a brief return on a few songs, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and on the closing track orchestra elements and choir vocals are also added into the music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover literature, myths and cosmos themes.
In my opinion Hecate are a very great sounding atmospheric and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Oracle atone" "Sous i'arche diamantine" and "Et ja panserai ''aube". 8 out of 10.
