Draept are a duo from Sweden that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very harsh and lo-fi form of occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 ep "Spit And Ash".
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep while a couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly tortured sounding black metal screams and the riffs also add in a small amount of melody.
When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style along with the music also capturing a very lo-fi atmosphere at times. The vocals also get very deep sounding in some parts of the recording while blast beats can also be heard when the music speeds up and the music sticks mostly to a mid tempo style and as the ep progresses a small amount of clean playing can also be heard and towards the end there is also a brief use of electronic soundscapes.
On this recording Draept gets less experimental and focuses more on a mid tempo style of black metal as well as still retaining a very lo-fi atmosphere. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Draept and if you are a fan of harsh and lo-fi occult black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chosen" and "Spit And Ash". 8 out of 10.
