Norinian where a band from the Netherlands that plays a musical style they described as being 'industrialized urban black metal' and this is a review of their 2008 demo "Absence Seizure" which was re-issued on cassette in 2020 by Knekelput.
Dark soundscapes start off the demo while spoken word samples are also used briefly along with the music also introducing elements of industrial onto the recording which are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs. Programmed beats are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording.
Vocals are done in more of a deep growling blackened metal style while also giving the music a touch of death metal. When synths are utilized they also gives the songs more of an atmospheric feeling along with the vocals also evolving more into a screaming style on later tracks and most of the music also sticks to a more of a slow to mid tempo direction.
All of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and when the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover misanthropy themes.
In my opinion Nornian where a very great sounding industrial black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sinner" and "Cacotopian Masses". 8 out of 10.
