Harvst are a duo from Germany that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Nerbenhain" which was released as a joint effort between Schattenpfade and Pesttanz Klangschmiede.
Synths start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with some clean vocals also being utilized at times and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
At times the music gets very atmospheric sounding along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while whispers can also be heard briefly and when the music speeds up blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized on a few tracks it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as most of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction. At times the vocals also get deep sounding along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of acoustic guitars and synths also make a return on a later track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover existence, time, loss and the cycle of life and death.
In my opinion Harvst are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nardbenhain" and "Droom". 8 out of 10.
