Saarkoth are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a very melodic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 ep "Follow The Cult".
Acoustic guitars start off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the only track that is presented on this recording is over 17 minutes in length. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also having its atmospheric moments as well as the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody, synths can also be heard in the background and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Saarkoth plays a style of black metal that is very melodic, epic and atmospheric sounding. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Saarkoth are a very great sounding atmospheric and melodic black metal band and if you are a f an of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. 8 out of 10.
