This is a review of a self released split album between Austria's Eschaton and Germany's Apathie called "Lichkvlt" and we will start off the review with Eschaton a band that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a musical style they describe as being 'discordian black metal'.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and brutal sound that also uses a great amount of blast beats.Vocals are mostly high pitched black emtal screams along with some deeper vocals also being used at times while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing as well as the music also showing an influence of death metal. When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic style along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. One of their tracks is also very long and epic in length and also introduces clean playing onto their side of the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Luciferian, Discordian, Sethianism and philosophical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Eschaton and if you are a fan of aggressive occult black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "I Am The Essence".
Next up is Apathie a band that plays a misanthropic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Their songs also add in a decent mixture of both modern and old school influences along with their last song being long and epic in length, shouting vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death, sorrow, misanthropy and nature themes.
In my opinion Apathie are a very great sounding misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of t his musical genres, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Legion".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of aggressive, misanthropic and occult black metal. 8 out of 10.
