Finland's Oranssi Pazuzu have returned with a new recording which continues the psychedelic black metal style of their previous releases and this is a review of their 2020 album "Mestarin Kynsi" which will be released on April 17th by Nuclear Blast Records.
Keyboards and atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the music also brings in a great amount of psychedelic elements.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also mixes the experimental and heavy parts together. A small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with the screams also adding in a depressive touch at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very distorted yet melodic style when they are utilized, clean playing also makes a return as the album progresses along with some acid house, 70's prog, krautrock infleunces, programmed beats and effects also being utilized at times and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover cosmos and abstract themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Oranssi Pazuzu and if you are a fan of psychedelic black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE " Tyhyyden sakramenti" and "Taivaan portti". 8 out of 10.
