O are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of black metal, grind, crust and post hardcore and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "Antropocene".
Static starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with some elements of post hardcore also being added into the mid tempo section of the songs.
At times the music also gets very dissonant sounding while a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Influences of crust and grindcore can also be heard in the faster sections of the songs along with the slower sections adding in touches of sludge metal. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very distorted yet melodic style, the closing track is very long and epic in length and also adds in a small amount of clean playing. drones and harsh noises. The production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover angry themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from O and if you are a fan of black metal, grind, c rust and post hardcore, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mare Moto" "Nebbia" "Ira" and "Era". 8 out of 10.
