Black Crown are a duo from the United States that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Caverns Of Thantifaxath" which was released as a joint effort between More Hate Productions, Satanath and The End Of Time Records.
Grim sounding black metal screams start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the riffing.
The music also mixes in a great amount of old school influences while still capturing a very modern atmosphere. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also down in a very dark yet melodic style along with the vocals also getting deeper at times as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
One track also introduces woodwinds onto the recording and some of the riffing also shows an influence of death metal along with some growls also being utilized at times and as the album progresses a brief use of ritualistic sounding synths and acoustic guitars can also be heard as well as one songs being an instrumental before returning back to a heavier direction on the remaining tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Left Hand Path, Rituals, Qliphoth and Sumerian Mythology themes.
In my opinion Black Crown are a very great sounding occult black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Rise Of Ashtaroth" "Children Of Tiamat" and "The Nine Hells". 8 out of 10.
