Belarus's Downcross have returned with a new recording which continues the anti cosmic style of black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Current Towards End" which was released by Cavum Atrum Rex.
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the ep along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. The songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences along with one of the tracks being long and epic in length, at times the vocals also get deeper sounding and towards the end of a brief use of synths can also be heard.
On this recording Downcross remains true to the anti cosmic style of black metal that they have established on their previous releases. The production sounds very raw and riffing while the lyrics cover Anti Cosmic Satanism, Luciferian and Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Downcross and if you are a fan of anti cosmic black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "War Maiden Of The Worlds" and "Current Towards End". 8 out of 10.
