Armnatt are a band from Portugal that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Dense Fog" which will be released in May by Signal Rex.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with the sounds of fires burning before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black emtal screams while the faster sections of the music also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era while some songs also add in a small amount of slow and mid tempo sections. A touch of the first wave era can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with all of the riffs being done on power chords, all of the music also avoids using any melody, guitar leads or solos, all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the tracks also stick to a heavier direction.
Armnatt plays a style of black metal that is very raw, power chord driven and old school in the 90's second wave tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and night themes.
In my opinion Armnatt are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dense Fog" "Eternal Night" and "Into The Catacombs". 8 out of 10.
