This is a review of a split album between Netherlands Vuur & Zijde and Germany/U.S.A's Impavida which will be released on April 24th as a joint effort between Prophecy Productions and Lupus Lounge and we will start off the review with Vuur & Zijde a duo that plays a very transcendental form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some operatic female vocals before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction which alsio uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. One of their tracks is also very long and epic in length.
Atmospheric elements can also be heard in some parts of the music along with the guitar leads being done in a very dark and melodic style. Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean playing can also be heard briefly as well as some elements of darkwave also being utilized at times and the closing track also adds in a ritualistic atmosphere and spoken word parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover existential themes.
In my opinion Vuur & Zijide are a very great sounding transcendental black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Zonnesstorm".
Next up is Impavida a duo that has had music reviewd before in this zine and plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark and heavy sound along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams a few seconds later while clean playing can aksi be heard at times along with the music also having its atmospheric moments.
During the faster sections of the songs a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of raw feeling. Throughiut their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and their closing track is also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover existential themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Impavia and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Wahn & Stille".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric and depressive black metal. 8 out of 10.
