Golden Ashes are a solo project from the Netherlands that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a synth orientated form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "The Lugubrious Silence Of Eternal Night" which will be released in May by Oaken Palace Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album while also utilizing a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as mixing in some symphonic sounding synths into the heavier sections of the music. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams that are kind of mixed down low in the mix.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also adds in a great amount of 90's influences. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with the songs also adding in a decent amount of melody and the music is more primitive than most bands that play this style.
On this recording Golden Ashes goes for more of an old school and synth orientated form of atmospheric black metal. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Golden Ashes and if you are a fan of synth orientated black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "As Sacred Bodies Wither Into Nothingness" "When Every Word Uttered Is As Whip Cuts Into Flesh" "Death Came With The Golden Dusk". 8 out of 10.
