Fog are a duo from Brazil that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "The Merciless Transmutation Of Gaia".
Atmospheric sounding keyboards start off the album and also bring elements of ambient onto the recording while also mixing in with the heavier sections of the music. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while distorted sounding guitar leads are also utilized at times. All of the drum beats are also programmed along with all of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction and towards the end a small amount of melody can also be heard.
Fog plays a style of ambient black metal that is very atmospheric, epic, mid tempo, primitive and lo-fi sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Gaia themes.
In my opinion Fog are a very great sounding ambient and atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Sublime Teachings Of The Forest". 8 out of 10.
