Nero Or The Fall Of Rome are a band from Italy that plays an epic mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Beneath The Swaying Fronds Of Elysian Fields"which will be released in April by Naturmacht Productions.
Tribal style drumming starts off the album along with some powerful sounding bass guitars a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction, Grim black metal screams can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the vocals also add in a great amount of clean singing.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard while elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the solos and leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow. mid paced and fast parts along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length. Clean playing and acoustic guitars can also be heard on a great portion of the songs, spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of songs.
The music also takes 80's and 90's influences and also gives them a more modern touch. As the album progresses a brief use of stringed instruments can also be heard as well as one of of tracks being an instrumentals The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Roman History themes.
In my opinion Nero Or The Fall Of Rome are a very great sounding epic mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Cross Of Nero" "Beneath The Swaying Fronds Of Elysian Fields" and "Our Epitaph Shall Be Covered In Stone". 8 out of 10.
