Secrets Of the Moon are a band from Germany that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and on this recording moves away from the occult black metal style of previous releases and goes into more of a mixture of gothic rock/metal and post punk and this is a review of their 2020 album "Black House" which will be released in May by Lupus Lounge.
Clean playing starts off the album while also adding in some elements of gothic rock along with the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody and metal influences. Clear vocals are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Female vocals are also added into some parts of the recording while the guitar leads are also done in a very melodic post punk style. Some of the songs are also long and epic in length along with some atmospheric sounding keyboards also being added into some parts of the recording, some tracks also bring in some session work from members of Swans, Enemy Of The Sun, Empyrium and The Ruins Of Beverast and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
On this recording Secrets Of The Moon completely move away from a black metal style and go for more of a mixture of gothic rock, dark metal and post punk as well as keeping some of the darkness around. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Secrets Of The Moon and while some black metal fans might not lie the new style, I can see this appealing to fans of gothic rock, dark metal and post punk. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sanctum" "He Is Here" "Black House" and "Earth Hour". 8 out of 10.
1st single release 'Veronica’s Room'
April 3rd: 2nd single release 'Earth Hour'
