October Falls are a band from Finland that plays a folk influenced form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "A Fall Of An Epoch" which will be released in May by Purity Through Fire.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album and also introduces elements of neo folk onto the recording while also appearing on the later tracks. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
A great amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also mixing the atmospheric elements into the heavier sections of the music.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams as well as the music also having its progressive moments. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover wolves, nature, fire and blood themes.
In my opinion October Falls are a very great sounding folk orientated atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Endtimes Rising" and "The Flood Of Drought". 8 out of 10.
