Morketida are a band from Finland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an old school form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Traveler Of The Untouched Void" which will be released on April 24th by Werewolf Records.
Evil sounding synths start off the ep and they also mix in with the heavier sections of the music at times while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era, at times the vocals also get very deep and demonic sounding and as the ep progresses a brief use of ethnic sounding acoustic guitars can be heard.
On this recording Morketida plays a style of occult black emtal that is heavily rooted in the second wave era showing some influences of the eastern European style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, death and occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Morketida and if you are a fan of old school occult black metal you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Descent Of Purple Mist" and "Traveler Of The Untouched Voids". 8 out of 10.
