Atavicus are a band from Italy that plays pagan metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Di Eroica Sirpe" which was released by Earth And Sky Productions.
A very heavy and melodic sound starts off the album before going into a very fast musical direction which also introduces blast beats onto the recording. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while synths and folk instruments are also added into the heavier sections of the music.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a r aw feeling while clean pagan vocals are also added into some parts of the tracks. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of acoustic and classical guitars.
The guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style as well as some spoken word parts also being used briefly. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of growls and as the album progresses the vocals also start adding in more of a grim approach. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover war, traditionalism, paganism and atavism themes.
In my opinion Atavicus are a very great sounding pagan metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Come nasce un eroe" "Diviba lamainvitta" and "Dieroica stirpe". 8 out of 10.
