Wacht are a duo from Switzerland that is more known for playing an aggressive form of black metal but on this recording goes for more of a romantic style of piano music and this is a review of their 2019 album "La Mort" which was released by Auric Records.
Tragic sounding pianos start off the album and dominate throughout the recording along with a variety of many different sounding keys. Spoken word parts are also a very huge part of the album as well as the vocals also being done in mostly a clean style and the songs also mix in a great amount of dark soundscapes.
At times the music gets very avant garde sounding along with some elements of classical and easy listening music. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as one track introducing whispered vocals onto the recording and all of the songs avoid any use of harsh vocals or traditional metal instruments.
On this recording Wacht moves away from the black metal style of previous releases and goes for more of a romantic and tragic piano music direction. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics are written in a dead language and cover death themes.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding recording from Wacht and while some black metal fans might not like the new style, I can still see this album finding an audience among romantic piano music fans. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pers" "Istorgias" and "La fossa sul sunteri". 8 out of 10.
