Ajera are a solo project from Norway that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of his 2019 ep "Scorn Of Man" which will be released as a joint effort between Depressive Illusions Records and Cult Tape Productions.
A very fast, raw and melodic sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's Norwegian second wave tradition and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while a couple of the tracks also adds in a brief use of synths. Deep growls can also be heard briefly along with a couple of the songs being very long and epic in length and spoken word samples can also be heard on the closing track.
Ajera plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school in the 90's Nordic tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Norwegian and cover letters written in a high security prison, psychic treatment and suicide notes.
In my opinion Ajera are a very great sounding old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evil And Decay" and "Scar". 8 out of 10.
