Svarttjern are a band from Norway that plays a very satanic and misanthropic form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Shame Is Just A Word" which will be released in 2020 by Soulseller Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the Norwegian style and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the riffing showing a thrash metal influence.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very old school style as well as having their dark and melodic moments along with one track also introducing acoustic guitars onto the recording, the songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern elements and they also add in a cover of Exodus's "Bonded By Blood". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover Satanism, misanthropy, anti religion and hatred themes.
In my opinion Svarttjern are a very great sounding satanic and misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Prince Of Disgust" "Melodies Of Lust" and "Shame Is Just A Word". 8 out of 10.
