Hellehond are a band from the Netherlands that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Verslonden" which will be released in December by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very distorted sound starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams as well as the music bringing in influences form both the 80's first wave and 90's second wave era.
Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo style while still maintaining a very raw atmosphere as well as having its fast moments. At times the music also gets very primitive sounding along with some blast beats and tremolo picking also being utilized when faster sections are added onto the recording, a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and all of the music sticks to a heavier direction.
Hellehond plays a style of black metal that is very raw, old school and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Hellehond are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Verslonden" "Hamerslagen"and "Kerkerlust". 8 out of 10.
