Trepas are a band from Quebec, Canada that plays a very harsh, atmospheric and melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "l'heritage du monde" which will be released in December by Sepulchral Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. A good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Acoustic guitars can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the music also has its melancholic moments. Deep growls are also added into some parts of the album along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and the riffs also add in a small amount of melody at times.
The songs also mix in a lot of atmospheric elements into the heavier sections of the music as well as the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences as well as bringing in a touch of doom metal and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover darkness, death and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Trepas are a very great sounding harsh, atmospheric and melancholic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "L'Aube" and "Errance". 8 out of 10.
