Lunacy are a duo from Belarus that plays a mixture of blackgaze, depressive rock, post metal, post punk and dreampop and this is a review of their 2019 album "My Favourite Dreams" which will be released on November 25th by Valse Sinistre.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album along with the music also mixing in some post rock and shoegaze elements. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and clean vocals are also a very huge part of the recording.
Grim yet depressive black metal screams can also be heard briefly while the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Dreampop and post punk influences are also a very huge part of the recording as well as the riffing also adding in the heaviness of post metal.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the music also showing an influence of the mid 90's era Katatonia back when they moved away from their heavier style as well as the songs sticking to mostly a slow or mid tempo style and keyboards are also added into certain sections of the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Lunacy are a very great sounding mixture of blackgaze, depressive rock, post metal, post punk and dreampop and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Road" "Prophecy" and "Reflection". 8 out of 10.
