Deadly Carnage are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording played more of a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2009 album "Decadenza" which will be re-issued in December.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them. Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some elements of doom metal being added into the slower sections of the songs.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the music also adding in a decent amount of post metal influences. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while acoustic guitars also return in some of the later tracks and one song also introduces ritualistic spoken word parts onto the recording.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding as well as the music being more black metal rooted than what was to become on later releases. When the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling, most of the songs also stick to more of a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the European pagan religions and the witchcraft trials of the 15th century.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Deadly Carnage and if you are a fan of pagan black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "1486" and "Facing The Path To Eternity". 8 out of 10.
