Kalt || Weiss are a solo project from Austria that plays a very avant garde form of black metal with dissonant and blackgaze elements and this is a review of his 2019 ep "Sertonin" which was released by Kvltstick4000 Records.
Clean vocals start off the album along with some heavy riffing a few seconds later while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style with mixes nu and post metal together. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as grim black metal screams also being a very huge part of the recording.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. while the songs also add in a great amount of dissonant structures. The songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music gets very avant garde sounding as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the songs also mixing in a great amount of blackgaze elements. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in German cover sex, drugs, existentialism and celebrity culture themes.
In my opinion Kalt || Weiss are a very great sounding avant garde black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ubermensch" and "Fleisch und Verstand". 8 out of 10.
