Negativa are a duo from Spain that h as had some music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very avant garde and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2014 ep "01" which will be released in December by Nebular Carcoma.
Static sounds and field recordings start off the ep before going into more of a heavier melodic and atmospheric musical direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams.
At times the music also captures a lo-fi atmosphere along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Avant garde and dissonant elements are also added into some parts of the music while a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and they close the ep with a cover of Atrablis's "Parte Segunda", spoken word parts can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Atrablis and if you are a fan of raw, lo-fi, avant garde depressive black metal, you should check out t his re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "III" and "V". 8 out of 10.
