This is a review of a split album between Norway's Sylvaine and Canada's Unreqvited called "Time Without End" and we will start off the review with Sylvaine a solo project that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording moves away from the post black metal of her previous release and goes into more of an acoustic post rock direction
Her side of the split starts out with some tragic sounding keyboards along with some clean vocals a few seconds later. Elements of ambient can also be heard on her side of the split along with some touches of post rock and acoustic guitars being added onto the second track as well as both tracks also sounding very different from each other.
On this recording Sylvaine moves away from the heavier direction of her previous release going for more of and acoustic direction with some touches of post rock and ambient. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover darkness and solitude themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sylvaine and while some black metal fans might not like the songs presented on the split, I can see this finding an audience with fans of ambient, post rock and acoustic music. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Falling".
Next up is Unreqvited a solo project that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording moves away from the post black metal style of their previous release and goes more into an orchestral direction.
His side of the split starts out with some nature sounds and ambient soundscapes before adding in some acoustic guitars. Orchestra elements are also used quite a bit on both of the tracks while the songs also use a good amount of programmed beats and post rock influences, operatic female vocals can also be heard briefly and both of the tracks are very long and epic in length and post black metal guitar riffing and melodic blackgaze leads are added on the second song.
On this recording Unreqvited brings in more of a mixture of post black metal, and orchestra music while also having more of a traditional post rock style than previous releases and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Unreqvited and if you are a fan of post black metal, shoegaze, post rock and orchestrated music, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Fields Of Elysium".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of post black emtal, post rock, sheogaze and ambient. 8 out of 10.
