Tomhet are a band from Russia that plays a very old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 ep "Dodsblikket".
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the ep along with a brief use of clean vocals before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the music also adding in a great amount of 90's and early 2000's influences.
The first track was doing mostly in a fast style while the second track also shows the music also adding in more slow and mid tempo riffing before returning back to a faster direction. Both of the tracks also sound very different from each other along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them, acoustic gutiars also make a return towards the end.
Tomhet plays a style of black emtal that is very raw, old school and traditional sounding in the Nordic tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw sounding while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Tomhet are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Seven Trembling Feet". 8 out of 10.
