Benthik Zone are a band from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very experimental, progressive and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "Omni Quantum Univers" which is almost 2 hours and is also has a movie version online.
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the album will all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Ambient style synths are also a very huge part of the recording along with the clean playing also adding elements of post rock onto the album and they also mix the experimental and heavy parts.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the solos and leads also being done in a very distorted and melodic style. The riffs also use a decent amount of melody while the faster sections of the songs also add in tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some melodic vocals also being used briefly on a few songs. A few tracks also introduces didgeridoo's, flutes and trumpets onto the recording while the music also has it's atmospheric moments along with all of the drum beats being programmed.
You can also hear a great amount of ritualistic elements throughout the album along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. In some parts of the music the vocals also utilize more of a depressive tone and on some tracks also bring in an angry shouting approach.
The songs also start getting more avant garde sounding as the recording progresses, one track also introduces spoken word parts onto the recording, acoustic guitars are also brought into the music at times and they also bring in a song that is starts out being instrumental for a few minutes before adding in a brief use of ritualistic canting and the album closes with an ambient track. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Portuguese and cover Quantum Psychics, Space, Science and Extraterrestrial Life Form themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nethink Zone and if you are a fan of experimental and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this double album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fio treme o Electrao" "Alga abraca a Serpente" "Planeta orvbita a Estrella" and "Universo tece o Flo". 8 out of 10.
