Italy's Australasia have returned with a new recording which shows the music going into an instrumental and blackened mixture of post rock and shoegaze and this is a review of their self released 2019 single "Mercurio".
Ambient style soundscapes start off the single while the clean playing also adds in elements of shoegaze. You can also hear a lot of traces of electronic music in both of the tracks as well as the music also being very heavily rooted in post rock and no vocals or songwriting are ever utilized and the music only has slight touches of black metal as well as avoiding guitar use and focusing more on synths.
On these tracks Australasia moves away from the black metal elements that where a huge part of earlier recordings and goes into more of an instrumental ambient, electronica, post rock and shoegaze direction and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Austraasia and while some post black metal fans might not like the new style, I would recommend it to fans of ambient, post rock, electronica and shoegaze. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Argento". 8 out of 10.
