Frozen Winds are a band from Cyprus that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Necromantic Arts" which was released by Deathhammer Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album which also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling along with a brief use of throat singing and whispered vocals before going into a heavier direction. The riffs also utilize a great amount of melody as well as all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
Melodic male and female chants can also be heard on some of the tracks while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly deep yet grim sounding black metal screams as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them as well as most of the tracks being very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with ritualistic soundscapes also returning on some of the later tracks and the vocals also get more high pitched as the album progresses.
When growls are utilized they also add in a touch of death metal, spoken word parts as well as some keyboards and operatic female vocals can also be heard on some of the later tracks and they close the album with a song that is more in a ritualistic direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Mysticism, Spirituality and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion Frozen Winds are a very great sounding occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Martyria" "Seven Astral Gates" and "Paternal Triumvirate". 8/5 out of 10.
