Artach are a duo from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada that plays a very raw and epic black metal and this is a review of the singles they have released on youtube so far and I am going to start from the oldest to current and review it like it is an album.
A very fast, raw and melodic sound starts off the first single which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Vocals are done in more of a grim spoken black metal style which also has a touch of the first wave style while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some clean singing also being used at times as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing.
On each youtube single the cover artwork also changes along with some tracks also adding in some more thrash and traditional metal influences as well as one song also adding in a small amount of whispers and as the tracks progresses spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and the vocals also evolve into more of a screaming style at times and they also bring in a cover of Celtic Frost's "Jewel Throne" and the last track is an actual video. The production sounds very professional on each song while the lyrics cover winter, nature and forest themes and some of the video singles also have lyrics printed.
In my opinion Artach are a very great sounding raw, melodic and epic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out these singles. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Eternal Black Winter" "Frozen In Time" and "When The Forest Ends". 8 out of 10.
