Serpens Luminis are a band from Switzerland that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Bright Euphoria" which will be released in November by Goathorned Productions.
A very dark and aggressive sound starts off the album which also introduces blast beats onto the recording. When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are done in more of a deep yet grim black metal style and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length. Elements of death metal can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as the riffs also utilizing a decent amount of dark sounding melodies.
Clean vocals can also be heard briefly and when synths are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and spoken word parts are also added onto the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Left Hand Path themes with some focus on the Eastern Path as well as going into the Qliptoth and Ain Soph era of the Cabbala.
In my opinion Serpens Luminis are a very great sounding occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Wreathed Skull". 8/5 out of 10.
