Alasthor are a duo from Belgium that plays an occult form of black metal with some elements of death, thrash metal and crust and this is a review of their self released 2019 ep "Ascension Of Rage".
A very fast, raw and melodic sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
You can also hear a good amount of 90's influences in the bands musical style while elements of crust are also added into some parts of the music. At times the vocals also get very deep sounding along with the music also showing some influences of death and thrash metal as well as always sticking to a heavier direction.
Alasthor plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic while the death, thrash metal and crust elements makes the music stand out a lot more, The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Left Hand Path, Luciferian, Death, Destruction and Anti Religion themes.
In my opinion Alsthor are a very great sounding occult black metal duo with some elements of death, thrash metal and crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Their Lies". 8 out of 10.
