Gaua are a solo project from Portugal that plays a very raw and hateful form of black metal and this is a review of his 2019 ep "Feeble Psychotic Vortex" which will be released in November by Nebular Carcoma.
A very distorted sound starts off the ep along with the tremolo picking also giving the songs more of a raw feeling. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with the music also being very heavily rooted in the 90's tradition. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Deep growls can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as the solos and leads being done in a very melodic yet old school style along with one track also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars, whispered vocals, spoken word parts and clean singing can also be heard briefly, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and the ep closes with a cover of Vlad Tepes's "Drink The Poetry Of The Celtic Disciple". The production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics cover dark, hateful and misanthropic themes.
In my opinion Graua are a very great sounding raw and hateful black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Misfortune" and "Second Lament Of A Star". 8 out of 10.
