Witch Trial are a band from Ghent, Belgium that plays a mixture of post black metal and noise rock and this is a review of their 2019 album "The Sun Has Left The Hill" which was released as a joint effort between Babylon Cult Records and Consouling Sounds.
Noise rock style riffing starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Clean playing can also be heard on a few tracks along with the music also mixing in a great amount of post metal elements. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the guitar leads being done in a very distorted yet melodic style, the riffs also add in a small amount of melody and a later song is long and epic in length.
Witch Trial plays a musical style that takes post black metal and noise rock and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and lo-fi while the lyrics are a concept album about the trancelike state between dream, sleep and being awake.
In my opinion Witch Trial are a very great sounding mixture of post black metal and noise rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sinking" "Lucid" and "Residue". 8 out of 10.
