Ploughshare are a band from Australia that plays a mixture of black and death metal with some elements of with some elements of doom metal, noise rock, post punk and electronic ambient and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Tellurian Insurgency" which will be released in November by I, Voidhanger Records.
Distorted soundscapes along with some spoken word samples start off the album along with some touches of harsh noise before going into a very fast and brutal direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats. Vocals bring in a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls.
A decent amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with the slower sections of the songs also adding in elements of doom metal. A couple of the tracks are long and epic in length while the tremolo picking in t he fast riffs also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also adding in elements of post punk and noise rock. Dissonant structures can also be heard in some parts of the riffs and guitar leads and the solos are also done in a melodic style at times and as the ep progresses electronic ambient sounds can also be heard briefly and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover scientific and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Ploughshare are a very great sounding experimental mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Abreactive Trance" and "Indistinguishable Beast Of Flight". 8 out of 10.
