Arvas are a band from Norway that plays a satanic form of black metal with some elements of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Equanimity" which will be released in November by Satanic Art Media.
Keyboards and stringed instruments start off the album along with a brief use of whispers and ritualistic spoken word parts before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black emtal screams while all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them. A decent amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing as well as the solos and leads being done in a very dark and melodic style
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffing also mixing in elements of death and thrash metal. The music also adds in a good mixture of both old school and modern influences, as the album progresses clean playing can also be heard briefly and the album closes with a cover of Coroner's "Masked Jackal". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Anti Christianity, Darkness, Death and Nature themes.
In my opinion Arvas are a very great sounding satanic black metal band with elements of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Thoughts In Despair" "Cursed By The Trident" and "The Horned One". 8 out of 10.
