Benighted In Sodom are a solo project originally from the United States but now resides in Finland and plays a depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of his 2019 album "Carrier Of Poison Apples" which will be released in December by I, Voidhanger Records.
Spoken word parts start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while clean singing can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording. A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic post rock and shoegaze direction.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also sounding very powerful. The songs also mix in a great amount of depressive black metal/rock elements as well as the music also being very heavily influenced by goth and darkwave, grim vocals can also be heard briefly and there is also a cover of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" and a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard on the closing track which is also an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover negative existentialism themes.
In my opinion Benighted In Sodom are a very great sounding depressive post black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical, genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dead By 33" "Raised Southern Baptist" and "Never Ever After". 8 out of 10.
