Maeskyym are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Interlude" which will be released on October 17th by Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs start off the album along with some whispered vocals also being used briefly before going into a heavier direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style.
Vocals also being in a great amount of high pitched yet depressive black metal screams while clean singing can also be heard at times. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and each track also starts out with an interlude and as the album progresses clean playing and acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly on a couple of songs. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Maeskyym are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gathering Believers Among Sheep" "The SLow Death Of the Years And Other Omens" and "Of Forests And Troubled Pasts". 8 out of 10.
