Vritra are a solo project from Finland which consists of Shatraug better known for his work in Horna and plays a satanic and occult form of black metal and this is a review of his 2009 album "Deinde Signum Mortifera" which will be re-issued on October 6th by Goatowarex.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as some clean playing and ritualistic whispers also being utilized at times and the music also adds in a great amount of 90's influences as well as one of the tracks being an instrumental.
Vritra played a style of satanic occult black metal that was very raw and old school sounding in the Finnish tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Finnish and they cover Satanism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Vritra are a very great sounding satanic and occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deinide Signum Mortifera" and "Virtute Vexilli Sathanas". 8 out of 10.
