This is a review of a split album between Cyprus/United Kingdom's Tome Of The Unreplenished and U.SA's Starless Domain called "Epistolary Of The Fall" which was released in 2019 by Aesthetic Death and we are going to start off the review with Tome Of The Unreplenished a band that plays a mixture of black metal, noise and power electronics.
Their side of the split starts out with breathing sounds while their track is over 18 minutes in length along with some power electronics a few seconds later. Programmed beats and harsh noises are also added into some parts of their track along with some elements of black metal also being utilized at times.
At times their track also gets very avant garde and experimental sounding as well as avoiding the use of any traditional metal instruments along with the vocals being done in more of a depressive black metal style and the production sounds very dark and lo-fi.
In my opinion Tome Of The Unreplinished are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, noise and power electronics and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.
Next up is Starless Domain who return with with deep field style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some atmospheric sounding drones which also gives the music more of a sci-fi atmosphere while also mixing in with the heavier sections of the music. Their track is also almost 40 minutes in length and also mixes in a decent amount of atmospheric and ambient elements.
When vocals are utilized they are a mixture deep demonic and grim black metal screams along with the faster sections of the song also adding in a decent amount of blast beats. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives their track more of a raw feeling and there is also a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover space, dwarf planets and asteroids.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Starless Domain and if you are a fan of ambient black metal, you should check out their side of t he split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of noise, ambient and black metal. 8 out of 10.
