Akaitsuki are a 1 man band from Los Angeles, California that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as being post black metal mixed with shoegaze and this is a review of his self released 2013 ep.
Welcome Sun" opens with some drone sound s before going into a heavy guitar riff, drum beats and melodic clean singing vocals and a few seconds alter post rock style guitar leads and grim black metal screams start making their way into the song before going into a silent mode and moving on to the next song.
"Opal Sea" begins with some heavy black metal guitar riffing and drum beats and a few seconds later melodic post rock guitar leads start kicking in and there are no vocals being utilized with the song being all instrumental.
"Pray" starts off with some acoustic guitar playing and drum beats before adding in some synths and melodic vocals which also lead up to some heavy and melodic guitar riffs and black metal screams for a few seconds before returning to a softer direction but it does return back to the heavier parts at times along with some guitar solos and leads being utilized..
Song lyrics cover nature themes, while the production has a very, strong, powerful, and heavy sound for being a self released recording.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Akaitsuki and if you are a fan black metal mixed with post rock and shoegaze, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Opal Sea". RECOMMENDED BUY.
