Colosus are a 1 man band from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of atmospheric black metal and dark ambient and this is a review of his 2013 album "Blestem" which was released by Kaotoxin Records.
"Desertacuine' begins with some dark ambient sounding synths and the song is all instrumental and serves as an intro for the album.
"Mormant" begins with some dark sounding synths and a few seconds alter fast and primitive black metal riffs start coming in along with some drums and high pitched screams and a few seconds later the music slows down a bit but remains heavy and then the music stops for awhile but you can still hear sounds in the background and a few seconds later the music starts getting heavy again along with some dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing and the screams utilizing some depressive elements and towards the end th e music speeds up again along with a brief use of blast beats.
"Intuneric" begins with some ambient sounding synths and a minute later heavy guitar riffs along with some drums and high pitched black metal screams start kicking in along with some depressive cries a couple of minutes later and a minute later some fast and primitive guitar riffing and blast beats are added in for a few seconds.
'Blestem" begins with some atmospheric synths and a minute alter black metal screams start kicking in and there are no guitars in the song with the music being all black ambient.
"Dorinta" begins with dark ambient sounds along with some sound effects and synths and a couple of minutes heavy guitar riffs and drum beats come into the song along with some black metal screams a few seconds later and after awhile there is a brief use of blast beats being utilized, as the song moves on it goes back to an ambient direction for a minute and then speeds up a bit along with some blast beats and fast and primitive guitar riffing before closing with the ambient sounds.
"Le Apus" begins with heavy guitar riffs, drum beats and atmospheric synths and after awhile depressive black metal screams make their presence known along with some dark sounding melodies and a couple of minutes later the music goes into a dark ambient direction for a few minutes before going into a more fast and primitive direction along with some blast beats and towards the end it slows down and goes into a more depressive black metal direction.
"Red Snow" which is a Cold World cover begins with some atmospheric sounding synths before the heavy guitar riffs and drum beats start kicking in along with some dark sounding melodies and a couple of minutes later melodic guitar leads and black metal screams start kicking in and after awhile fast drums are added in certain sections of the song and the song closes with some clean acoustic guitar playing.
"Pustiu" begins with some dark ambient synths and halfway through the song heavy guitar riffs and drums along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams start kicking in along with some dark sounding melodies.
Song lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it along with most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Colosus are a very great sounding hybrid of atmospheric, depressive black metal and dark ambient and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this artist. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mormant" "Dorinta" and "Red Snow". RECOMMENDED BUY.
